Roberts cabin is in a secluded location away from people and towns in the middle of the mountain with no cellphone signal and no neighbors!
You may imagine camping resorts when you hear of glamping, but the cabin we stayed is so isolated from other people and activities, this place is private. Roberts Cabin is the only building located in the middle of a mountain with no cellular services and no neighbors.
We had a quaint glamping experience at Roberts Cabin. The cabin was built back during the Gold Rush era. It was used as a residence from 1880 to 1937.
HOW TO GET TO ROBERTS CABIN

The Roberts Cabin is located in the town of Fairplay, about an hour and a half drive from Denver, Colorado. From Denver, go through the city and drive Hwy 285 for a while. 285 is not a big highway, but the roads are well-maintained. 4WD is not required. Keep going on Hwy 285 to Como. From here it is an unpaved road and the cabin is about 3 miles away. Of course, you can’t speed too much because you will be on a pretty bumpy road, and there is nobody around, so go slowly to avoid getting a flat tire.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT ROBERTS CABIN

When we arrived at Roberts Cabin, it was getting dark outside. We first passed the parking space for the cabin. Moreover, we thought we could not get inside through the gate since we saw it was locked with a padlock. We parked right outside the gate and can still walk to the cabin. We didn’t know until we headed back to town after we left that we noticed there was an email from our reservation that provides the combo of this lock. Before you get there, check your email in advance!
*Unlike National Park camping entrances, there are no people at this property to help you check in. The email they will send you right before your booking dates will be the key. You will probably have no cellphone services near Roberts Cabin, therefore I highly recommend that you take a screenshot of the email before your arrival.
PARKING SPACE TO ROBERTS CABIN

Even if you park inside the gate, you will have to cross a small walking bridge and there is quite a distance to carry your stuff between the parking space and Roberts Cabin. If you have a lot to carry, you may want to bring a wagon.
The cabin’s door is also locked with a padlock. The combo will be sent to your email like the gate lock as well.
INSIDE ROBERTS CABIN

The cabin has two stories. You can find a living room with a dining table, couch, and fireplace on the first floor. There is no power at this property. It is very dark inside the cabin. Lanterns and some kinds of lights are definitely needed. No water faucet as well for this property, bring lots of water!

It was during the middle of summer when we stayed at Roberts Cabin, however, the temperature was cool enough with using the fireplace. Bring firewood with you if you plan to use the fireplace.
No power, Wi-Fi, or cell phone signal, it is the great digital detox time! We enjoyed our family time playing a board game that we brought from home.
Roberts Cabin BEDROOM

The bedroom is on the second floor. There are four full-size beds. The picture doesn’t show the fourth bed but there is one by the window, which is lower than the other three beds. Since there are only mattresses, bedding such as linen, sleeping bags, and blankets will have to be provided by yourself.
FYI: These mattresses are far from comfortable. Mattresses are not flat and you will feel like you are sinking. My husband and I barely slept through the night. If you have space in your car, you may want to bring some camping cots. But it was still worth staying in this historical cabin and we really enjoyed the experience!

To go upstairs, you will have to climb the steep stairs that felt like it was almost a ladder. There is a handrail but only on one side.
OUTSIDE AMENITIES

Roberts Cabin Outhouse
As you can see in the picture above, an outhouse is located outside of the Roberts cabin and a short walk is required. It is not far but you have to cross the little walking bridge and it would be kind of scary if you go there by yourself at night. It is completely dark outside. Even though we all used headlights, it was hard to see the path to the outhouse. You may want to check out the way to the outhouse during the daytime in advance to become more familiar with the path before it becomes dark. The vaulted toilet was very clean and toilet paper was provided. I would still recommend that you bring your own toilet paper just in case. If you find no toilet paper during your visit, there are no campsite hosts and no stores nearby.

Fire Ring
There is a fire ring, two benches, and a campfire grill grate in front of the cabin. There are no tables. If you want to enjoy the campfire, you will have to purchase firewood before your get here since no store can be found in this area. You should prepare extra water to distinguish the campfire since Colorado gets dry and sometimes has wildfires.
PLACES TO VISIT NEAR ROBERTS CABIN

Como
With only an eight-minute drive from the cabin, it will take you to another historical place, Como. Como looks similar to a ghost town, but within the town, you will find a store attached to a post office. While walking through the ghost town, there are abandoned saloons and a hotel that are interesting to see.

Como Roundhouse
You may think of “Thomas & Friends” when you hear roundhouse. The more than a hundred-year-old roundhouse can be found here, in Como. Unfortunately, we were not able to see the inside while we visited, however, there are some opportunities for open houses several times a year. Please check the official website in advance.
Final THOUGHTS
Roberts Cabin glamping was quite an experience for all of us. There was literary nature all around the cabin and it was so quiet. One downside was that the mattresses were not comfortable, but we were all happy that we could stay in this historical cabin!
We talked about how people used to live in old days without electricity or running water in the house while hearing the squeaking sound of the floor when walking. I highly recommend this cabin for your next adventure!as many shops and restaurants, so it is a place where you can enjoy the resort to the fullest.

Calling Robert’s Cabin ‘glamping’ is incredibly misleading to any online. It is in no way supposed to be glamping.
Thanks Victor for the honest feedback! We got lost in the beauty of the cabin and the architecture. With this cabin being remote and beautiful, we really enjoyed this place. Have you been to this place yet, if not you should!
