Beaver Creek is an amazing place to visit, and Park Hyatt Beaver Creek is one of the most convenient ski hotels to stay at during such times.  In this post, I’ll show you how to experience such a place in an affordable way.

In late April, the ski season in Colorado is gradually coming to an end. Beaver Creek had just finished its season when we stayed at Park Hyatt Beaver Creek. Although I had been wanting to stay at this hotel, we didn’t have a chance to stay during the season due to the high cost. One night costs usually more than $1000! However, the price is significantly cheaper as soon as the season ends. By chance, my husband and I had the opportunity to go out without kids, so we took the chance and stayed at Beaver Creek for one night. It may be the first hotel stay without kids for us since they were born over 12 years ago. If you book through Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR) with American Express (Amex) Platinum Card, you will enjoy extra benefits. The following link will explain the benefits and a more detailed review of our stay at Park Hyatt Beaver Creek.

The entrance building before entering Furnace Creek Campground in Death Valley.

Park Hyatt Beaver Creek has an excellent location!  A gondola ski lift is located right in front of the hotel. You can enjoy a variety of winter and also summer activities like hiking and biking. Beaver Creek is in the Epic Pass group, and if you have an Epic Pass, you don’t have to line up to buy a one-day lift ticket. If you buy your pass early, you can also ride the lift during the summer.

Junior Suite Room

One of the benefits of FHR is the room upgrade when it’s available. We booked the cheapest room with a King but we got to stay at a Junior Suiter Room! Woohoo!! Since we stayed at the hotel during the weekend, I didn’t expect the room upgrade at all. The upgrade, especially to a Suite room was a big surprise!

Bathroom

Many people think that one of the pleasures of staying in a 5-star hotel is the nice spacious bathroom. The bathroom has a lot of room and modern design. We enjoyed the nice and clean double sinks during the stay.

Modern shower room at Park Hyatt Beaver Creek.

What? Don’t you have a bathtub?! That’s the first impression. Of course, I was happy with the large shower room, but I wanted a bathtub – Especially at ski resorts, it is of course cold in winter, and it was cold outside on this day as well, so I was a little disappointed because I dreamed of soaking in a hot bath.

Moreover, we had a water problem that night. After our dinner, I was taking a shower. I know in Colorado, hot water often does not come out for the first minute or so during the cold season. As I shower, I started shivering and asked my husband to call the front desk.  They told us that there was no hot water in the entire hotel. Earlier in the day, we went hiking on a windy day, and my hair was full of sand. So, we didn’t want to skip the shower. We both felt so freezing after the shower.  The cold shower made it where we couldn’t sleep well that evening. Wish the hotel told us about the water trouble in advance.

Late Check out

One of Amex’s FHR benefits is late check-out, which allows guests to stay until 4pm! Since we couldn’t have a good night’s sleep, we were taking a nap the following day using the late check out benefit. However, we were awaken with strong door knocking sounds. Even though I said, ” One second please” a few times, someone tried to open the door. Luckily, the chain was on the door and he was not able to come inside, but it scared me.

The hotel staff just wanted to ask if we are staying one more night or checking out. I guess they don’t know guest schedules. I would recommend to hang the “Do not disturb” sign outside your door when you want to use the late check out benefit.

Beaver Creek Village

A big sign of " The Ranch At Death Valley" made of rocks and wood.

Last time when we visited Beaver Creek Village, the village was very vibrant.  This time we decided to go out for dinner in the village before we even got to the hotel. However, the village was empty during this stay! Although it was a Saturday night, all the shops and restaurants were surprisingly closed. I didn’t see that information on Google maps nor Yelp, they still showed as open.

I was surprised at how different it was when the ski season ended. It was after half past seven at night, so I hurried back to Park Hyatt before everything in the hotel closes early as well.

Restaurant and Bar

There are some groceries including water bottles, milk, sandwiches in the fridge at a hotel, "The Ranch at Death Valley" in Death Valley

Bar at the hotel

Since the restaurant of the hotel was also closed, we dined at the bar at the hotel. Even though it is a bar, you can choose from the same menu as the restaurant. However, since this is low season, the bar closes at 8pm. It’s so early!  My husband and I were planning to stay longer at the bar or restaurant to get relaxed, so this was a little disappointing. By the way, the steak and salmon we ordered was very delicious. I used the $100 FHR credit for this dinner.

Free Breakfast with FHR benefit!

The breakfast restaurant had good vibes, especially the location. You can enjoy the view of the ski slopes from your table looking out through the restaurant’s windows.

A Delicious looking T-bone steak with grilled asparagus and Baked Cheesy potato on a plate.

My husband ordered Eggs Benedict and I had a Breakfast Sandwich. When you book Park Hyatt Beaver Creek through FHR and pay with Amex Platinum card, breakfast for up to two people (up to $34 per person) will be FREE! It is one of the great benefits of Amex Platinum.

*FHR (Fine Hotel + Resorts) includes many luxury hotels which is usually more than four stars all over the world. If you often stay at those luxury hotels, Amex Platinum card is so worth it. You will get a variety of benefits during your stay. FHR Benefits

The restaurants seemed to not have enough employees while we stayed. Even though there were only a few customers in the restaurant, we waited longer than usual for everything. A little patience is required during the low seasons. The restaurant employees were still very polite the entire stay.

Hotel Amenities

Outdoor Pool

There is an outdoor pool. Although it was heated, it was still too cold for me. I quickly moved to the Jacuzzi. Bathrobes can be found in the closet of your hotel room and you can wear them to the pool.

Jacuzzi

There are five Jacuzzis next to the pool. Again, because the season ended, only two jacuzzi were available.  I bet you can enjoy the jacuzzi more after spending the day skiing and snowboarding.

Playground

You can find a playground near the pool. If you have small kids, this is good for parents to hang out somewhere nice and have your little ones playing nearby!

Indoor Amenities

There are many indoor bikes at gym of Park Hyatt Beaver Creek.

Gym

The hotel also provides a decent gym, which can be used free of charge by hotel guests. They have Yoga classes as well, for an additional cost. It is even more beautiful when it snows, and yoga classes during the winter seem to be popular.

Clean locker room in the bathroom at Park Hyatt Beaver Creek.

Locker Room

A locker room is also available when using the gym. The inside was very clean and there was a shower and sauna, which is included in the cost of your stay. Bath towels are also available, so you can come empty-handed.

Steam room inside the locker room at Park Hyatt Beave Creek.

Steam Room

This is a steam room. I stayed in late April, but the temperature was still low outside and I took a cold shower the day before, so I was grateful that I could use this steam sauna. But if possible, I wanted to know that there was a complimentary sauna the day before. A dry sauna is also available in the locker room.

Don’t worry if you don’t bring sandals! Sandals can also be borrowed for free.

There is also a shower in the locker room. It is convenient because you can take a shower here after using the pool or gym.

Spa

There is also a spa in the hotel, and in addition to massages, you can also use the jacuzzi shown in the photo (above). There was also a hot stone chair where you can take a bedrock bath. You can tour the inside of the spa if you ask. Please note that the spa is available at an additional cost. Official website

The official website said that the pass was $20, but when I asked the staff, one person would cost $40. It seems better to check which one is correct on the day of use.

The spa is not managed by Park Hyatt. The spa is a third party, therefore the FHR benefits would not cover this additional charge.

FHR Benefits at Park Hyatt Beaver Creek

All the benefits of Park Hyatt Beaver Creek using Amex FHR.

You will receive a paper of FHR benefits upon check-in. If for some reason you don’t get one, ask at the reception. All hotels offer similar benefits when booking with FHR, but the use of those credits can vary by each hotel, so please check at check-in.

  1. Check-in at noon if space is available
  2. If there is space, they will upgrade your room for free

  4. Faster Wi-Fi included in the room
  5. Late check-out at 4 pm
  6. Receive $100 credit at the hotel (available at Restaurants & Shops)

By the way, I found out that even though I booked and paid through Amex, Hyatt also charged my credit card at a later date. In other words, a double billing. Even if you contact customer service, it cannot be solved easily, and it takes several days to resolve. Oh, Hyatt, I’m disappointed! Be sure to check your credit card statements after your stay!

Final THOUGHTS

The location is great for skiers and snowboarders! Park Hyatt Beaver Creek is also in a great location for hiking and mountain biking in summer. The village outside the hotel has many shops and restaurants, so it is a place where you can enjoy the resort to the fullest.

It may be that the time we stayed was during the off-season, but even though we stayed, there were shower problems and billing problems.

Compared to the nearby Ritz-Carlton, the quality of customer service is considerably lower.  If we have stayed at this Park Hyatt many times before, and if we had this problem, then these rare issues are ok.  But since this was my first stay at this hotel, and had this many issues as a first impression, not sure if I would return.
